If we’re friends on Facebook then you probably already know that I embarked on another Whole 30 journey! Day 10 today and I am definitely starting to feel the effects of a clean slate! Less brain fog, increased energy, less cravings, no bloat (ugh!), and increased love for black coffee!
If you have never heard of Whole 30 it is a “reset” in lots of ways. You have a list of foods that are considered “compliant” and you eat only the foods on the list for 30 days. The biggest no is sugar. Absolutely none. Nada. No added sugar in anything. My favorite about this reset, and unique to this program is the importance to focus on resetting your unhealthy eating habits. Everyone has their own personal habits associated with food so while it does pin point exact ones to try and overcome, you are the only YOU so identifying with your struggles and setting goals to focus during the 30 days is important. For me personally, I love to snack at night after the kids go to bed, a way to unwind and relieve my stress. Yes I combat stress with chips and cereal. Not cool Tarren. Not something I am absolutely proud of but ya know, just being real with y’all. Admitting my vice. No judgement please 😛 I have plenty of others, this is just one example. So for now, this is one of my main habits to focus on during this round of Whole 30, after supper the kitchen is closed. Except for tea or LaCroix. Another vice, but those are compliant! Ha!
Tonight for supper I made Spaghetti! My fam loves Spaghetti night. I try really hard not to make separate meals while doing whole 30 so that I don’t cause extra work and frustration. Its a plus when I can throw in healthy food for my kiddos too! I worked it around what they already eat. So all I had to add for them was a pot of spaghetti noodles. They are not convinced that spaghetti squash is yummy yet. 😉
I wanted to share this meal with y’all! If you are thinking about Whole 30 this is one of my go to meals. It is very simple and can come together quickly.
I seasoned the spaghetti squash with compliant Italian seasoning and Himalayan salt. Turned it face down on a cookie sheet and baked at 400 for 45 min. Do not overcook or the squash is squishy. Yes that is a word. 😛 It should scrape out with a fork once it is done. If you have never had spaghetti squash you are in luck because they are in season. I get mine at Walmart year round but you can probably find them at any local grocery store. Just be prepared for a good arm workout getting it cut open! Seriously it can be scary getting these cut in half!
I found grass fed beef at the local Walmart for the same price as Trader Joe’s!
I cook two pounds of meat always! I always cook more so that I can have the meal again later in the week. I do not have a major meal prep day, I just cook double when I am cooking. For me taking it 2-3 days at a time works well so that I don’t get overwhelmed. The good news now is that all I have to do tomorrow is heat up my meal! Healthy can be simple. One meal at a time. Just do the next thing sister. Not the next 6 months.
My Whole 30 compliant spaghetti sauce is from Costco. Two pounds of meat calls for two jars of sauce. My only problem now is making sure my hubby doesn’t take my Whole 30 spaghetti for lunch! Stay out of the fridge dude!
Now just scrape your squash into a bowl and top with meat sauce! Viola!!
Delicious! Now make your cup of tea and close the kitchen! 😉
